Samsung Galaxy XCover 5, the toughest smartphone around.

Meet the Galaxy XCover 5, Samsung’s latest smartphone in a long history of tough AF and rugged smartphones meant for people working in extreme conditions. So what makes it so tough? Well for started it comes with a shock absorbing cover that can withstand drops of up to 1.5 meters and it’s IP68 rated so it’s dust resistant and can survive in 1 meter deep water for over half an hour. A lot of harsh condition workers work with gloves on too so it’s equipped with Glove Touch technology so they don’t have to take off their gloves to use their phone. Protection doesn’t just keep things out too, internally the hardware is protected with Samsung Knox, their defense-grade security that is embedded from chip level all the way to app level to protect information in real-time. It even has a special XCover key that be programmed to be a walkie talkie button compatible with Microsoft Teams.

Spec wise SOME thought was put into it too, equipped with an Exynos 850 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It’s even got a replaceable 3,000 mAh battery (rarer than a RTX 3080 at msrp nowadays) with fast charging through USB and POGO pins. Cameras are kept strictly basic too, with a 16mp rear and 5mp front camera for business communication and video conferencing.

I would like to try to see for myself just how tough it is and how much force is needed to use it to break a bone or two.
