Malaysian photography talent recognized on the global stage
Back in April 2023, HONOR announced its HONOR Magic Moments Awards 2023, gathering talents from all over the world in the quest of finding the best creativity of HONOR’s smartphone photography. With submissions closed in August, international judges spent months in finding themselves snapshots worthy to be crowned winners. In addition to the six categories of the global section, Malaysian photographers were inspired to participate in the national awards, themed #MagicMomentsofMalaysia, to capture the best representation of our country, though the eye of HONOR’s very own smartphone camera.
Photographer of The Year: Muhd Fuad – A remarkable double win
For the second year running, Muhd Fuad, Malaysia’s photographic maestro, claimed the coveted Photographer of The Year title. Fuad’s exceptional skills shone through as he ventured into Sarawak, using the HONOR Magic5 Pro to encapsulate the cultural richness of Borneo through the eyes of a Melanau girl. This triumph not only secured Fuad the grand prize of RM 10,000 but also reaffirmed his status as a top-tier talent in Art, Culture, and Heritage photography.

Master of Photography: Kenji Ooi and Yusuf Madi
Kenji Ooi and Yusuf Madi earned the esteemed title of Master of Photography, each receiving RM 5,000 as prize in recognition of their outstanding work. Ooi’s awe-inspiring shot featured Malaysia’s iconic quartet of towers: the Petronas Twin Towers, KL Tower, Menara TM, and TRX, emphasizing the nation’s architectural marvels. On the other hand, Madi’s lens explored the depths of the Sarawak jungle, capturing a guardian amidst the natural radiance of the forest.

Prestigious and Honorable Awards – More talents recognized
Among the wealth of exceptional submissions, the Prestigious Photographer Award was bestowed upon Thomas Cheah, Mohamad Nor Amrey bin Rosley, and Shahrulnizam, who each earned an HONOR Magic5 Pro unit. Ten recipients were honored with the Honorable Photographer Award: Mahmudul Hassan, Bobby Lau, Mohd Saifuddin, Nazel Noor, Fahmie Izwan, Mazita Suraini, Fiona Tan, Amir Nordin, Sam Lim, and Kenny Ariovistus.
The Best Recommendation Award – Malaysian trio triumph
Taking the global spotlight, the Best Recommendation Awards are submissions that are internationally recognized, taking the accolade of gallery worthy to be on the worldwide scale. Malaysian trio of Ahmed Bakarat, Muhd Fuad and KL Chong did Malaysian proud with their outstanding submissions. HONOR Malaysia extends its gratitude to all participants for showcasing Malaysia’s creativity, vision, precision, and skill within the realm of smartphone photography.
