It’s no surprise to see more and more smartphone brands hopping into the foldable arena, given our South Korean friend’s market domination. Today we found ourselves with OPPO, a brand that’s more associated to selfie cameras and style, introducing their OPPO Find N for us to touch and feel during their OPPO INNO (For Innovation) Day.
Well is it any good?
Well, the most important thing would be the screen, and based on what we’ve seen OPPO’s pretty serious on getting it right. It has a landscape ratio of 8.4:9 comprising of a 7.1-inch inner and 5.49-inch outer display . This makes unfolding pretty smooth and greeting you with an already landscape orientation. It aims to give off the fullscreen experience without the need to rotate the device or play with the settings. The front screen is long at 18:9, which is pretty much a slightly taller candy bar phone.
The Hinge
The hinge is usually the tricky part of what makes a good foldable phone. The OPPO Find N uses the Flexion Hinge, made up of 136 delicate components that can handle up to 120° and as little deviations as 0.01mm because of an unusual water-drop design that creates a buffer zone when you fold out the display. This means there’ll also be minimal creasing, but not completely gone. Less crease also prevents more vulnerabilities on the screen, as the enemy of foldables are internal scratches created by too frequent folding (self defeating, innit?)

Price
In China, it’s speculated that the OPPO Find N will come with a CNY Y7,699 price tag which is just over RM 5K. We predict it to be less than RM 5500 after taxes and calculations. What do you think? It’s cheaper than the Z Fold3, but whether it’s better or not is up to the point where we will review it.
