Transcend PCIe Gen5 x4 SSD
Debuting its first appearance in Computex 2024, the Transcend PCIe Gen5 x4 SSD (not official model name) is the company’s latest generation PCIe based SSD, which also means its the very latest in memory offering that’s going to hit the market very soon. It will have a capacity starting from 512GB all the way to 8TB.
During my interview, it was told that this SSD has the capability of performing up to 3x (approx 14500 MB/s read, 14000 MB/s write) the speed compared to the current Gen4 offering in random read/write benchmarks, while remaining stable thanks to a SMI controller based on a 6nm node process. As a reference, currently competitors are using a controller from PHISON that’s based off a larger 12nm node process. This in turn provides superior stability and power efficiency over the current generation.
Being that it is indeed an engineering unit being displayed at the Computex booth, I anticipate its retail arrival in Malaysia sometime this year.
