Ninja Van Malaysia today announced it hosted its inaugural ScamMinar Panel Discussion, an initiative launched in response to a sharp rise in scam-related cases across Malaysia, particularly in the Klang Valley. The event saw Ninja Van Malaysia sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to enhance public awareness and strengthen joint enforcement capabilities against parcel scams. The panel also featured Raymon Ram, Founder and Managing Principal at Graymatter Forensic Advisory Sdn. Bhd.
In 2024, Malaysia reported a total of 35,368 scam cases, resulting in financial losses amounting to RM1.6 billion. Scams targeting online shoppers have emerged as a growing threat. Ninja Van Malaysia alone recorded over 17,000 scam cases in 2024, with 40% concentrated in the Klang Valley. The upward trend has continued into 2025, with more than 3,500 scam reports received in the first quarter, exceeding any single quarter of the previous year. The majority of these involve Cash on Delivery (COD) scams, ghost scams, and phishing scams via Short Message Service.
The MoU between Ninja Van Malaysia and PDRM underscores a shared commitment to combating parcel-related scams, enhancing public awareness, and strengthening joint enforcement capabilities to better protect consumers. The MoU was signed by Lin Zheng, Chief Executive Officer of Ninja Van Malaysia, and Mr. Yap Huat Tian, Selangor Deputy Head of Commercial Crime Investigation Department (Intelligence/Operation), of the Royal Malaysia Police.
“At Ninja Van Malaysia, our responsibilities go beyond logistics,” said Lin Zheng, CEO of Ninja Van Malaysia. “As a key player in the industry, we have a duty to educate the public against the rising scam threats. The ScamMinar is part of our ongoing commitment to deliver not only parcels but also trust and safety. Scammers are becoming more sophisticated, but through awareness, education, and collaboration, we can stay one step ahead”.
Yap Huat Tian, Selangor Deputy Head of Commercial Crime Investigation Department (Intelligence/Operation), PDRM, emphasized the importance of collaboration. “Public education and inter-agency collaboration are crucial in tackling the rising tide of scams,” he stated. “Initiatives like the ScamMinar provide an essential platform to reach vulnerable communities and empower them with the knowledge to protect themselves. We commend Ninja Van Malaysia for taking proactive steps in this nationwide effort”.
Raymon Ram, Founder and Managing Principal at Graymatter Forensic Advisory Sdn. Bhd., highlighted the broader impact of scams. “Scams erode public trust — not only in businesses, but also in the institutions meant to protect us,” he said. “They exploit weak governance, digital blind spots, and the lack of consumer awareness. At Transparency International Malaysia, we believe that the fight against scams must go beyond enforcement — it requires integrity, transparency, and public vigilance”. He added that the ScamMinar is a “timely initiative that underscores the power of collaboration between law enforcement, the private sector, and civil society,” and that “only through sustained education, ethical corporate conduct, and multi-stakeholder partnerships can we disrupt the ecosystem that enables scams to flourish”.
Despite being a target of such scams, Ninja Van Malaysia has taken a firm stance by continuously raising awareness and educating the public through various initiatives, including scam advisories and educational content on social media. The ScamMinar also featured expert-led panels covering red flags of online shopping scams, evolving scam tactics, data protection tips, and how to report suspicious activity.
The event demonstrated the power of community action and proactive education in combating growing scam threats by bringing together the public, government agencies, and industry stakeholders.
