In an exciting announcement at MWC recently, HONOR and HONOR Malaysia has revealed the HONOR ALPHA PLAN, an open pledge that commits to a consumer-centric approach that entails extended coverage to their mobile products. This however, applies to current and newer generation of devices, starting with the Magic 7 Pro.
“The HONOR ALHPA PLAN has a strong emphasis on a consumer-centric approach to our future products. We aim to provide devices and services that meet consumer needs and beyond their expectation now and in the future. Therefore, HONOR has decided to offer seven years of Android OS and security updates to the HONOR Magic series. This includes our flagship bar phone and foldable phone. This commitment begins with the HONOR Magic7 Pro. We are delighted to make this available to our customers,”

The extended support not only extends the lifespan of devices and reduces e-waste, in line with the sustainability standards, but also ensures users enjoy secure, high-performing devices with the latest AI technology throughout their extended lifecycles. In the future, HONOR will offer the extended support to more of its HONOR flagship models, including bar phones and foldable phones.
Why the policy change?
- To reduce electronic waste and make smartphones last longer
- To align with the EU’s Circular Economy and Ecodesign regulations
- To compete with other brands like Samsung and Google
How will the policy be implemented?
- The policy will first be rolled out in the European Union (EU), with plans to expand to other regions later
- The Magic 7 Pro will be the first device to receive this policy
What does this mean for existing Honor phones?
- The Honor Magic 6 Pro, Honor Magic V3, and Honor 200 Pro will remain subject to the original commitment of five years of updates
- It’s unclear if this policy will retroactively apply to any other older Honor phones
