Sony releases the ZV-E10, now it’s basically a A6400 for vlogging.

The Sony ZV series is the vlogging series of cameras from Sony, and traditionally they would have smaller 1-inch sensor or around thereabouts but Sony today broke the norm with the new ZV-E10, packing in a 24MP APS-C sensor in the familiar and lightweight ZV body. It’s basically on crack, because the sensor is used in full-fledged camera.

Video wise it’s capable of recording up to 4K 30 fps (with a x1.23 crop, of-course) and now uses the E-mount lens mount so you can change lenses in it now. It even has flat color capabilities like S-Log2, S-Log3, and HLG profiles for cinematic use. The sensor only has digital stabilization so pairing it with a optically stabilized lens would be the best idea if you plan to buy one, as digital stabilization would apply a x1.44 zoom. It’s available in a body only package or bundled with the 16-50 kit lens that is more or less the same as the previous year’s ZV-1.

On the back you have a good old tilty-flippy articulating screen with a hot-shoe on top for external mic or a wind noise cancellation deadcat. The buttons and menu are all the familiar Sony ecosystem designs so Sony users would be used to it very quickly. There is a new “background defocus” feature which automatically blurs out the background and focus on a non face-detected object that is nearest to the camera for all your product b-rolls, so gone are the days of placing your hand over a product to show it. (IQ 200,000 inventions honestly, I hope all the Sony Alpha cameras get updated with this but it is unlikely due to the vlogging-centric nature of the ZV lineup).

On the side you have a dedicated microphone & headphone jacks, a mini hdmi and a now type-c charging port to juice up the new larger NP-FW50 battery that is used in many of Sony’s full-fledged cameras, so prepare to own a bucket load of these if you plan to use this shoot videos outside for over half a day.
