Durability Refinements Over Design Changes

This time around, both the Galaxy Z Flip4 and Fold4 underwent a series of refinements that are targeted towards durability, in the form of stronger materials for the armor aluminum. The slight differences are towards the finish, as the Flip4 now sports a gloss-matte approach, with the direct top and bottom being smooth matte and the hingest and sides glossy. Both the hinge and rails are boxier with the edges still round, which makes for a solid hold.

We got the Pink Gold, and it’s definitely an immediate favorite.

The screen’s still protected with a factory applied screen guard that we definitely don’t recommend removing. As usual, there’s a qualified screen that’s the Z Flip3’s here. The 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X with 120Hz is here to stay and we’ve never complained about it. The minute note to take that the Z Flip4’s adaptive refresh rate is now able to go to as low at 1Hz to save some power which is a small part of the critical experience that is long battery life in a thin foldable smartphone.

Bump In Processing, Internal Storage.

Like the Z Fold4, the Z Flip4 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor coupled with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. On first setup the phone got expectedly hot, a common theme if you know your Flips. It does take a few days for the device to learn your usage patterns, so battery life might improve but only after awhile.

The Z Flip4 continues in the Z Flip3’s robust waterproofing, being rated at IPX8, which promises up to 30 minute submersion at 1.5m in depth.

Their Toughest Hinge, With One-Hand UNFOLDING?

Samsung’s even newer Aluminum Armor is a core ingredient in the Z Flip4’s hinge, boasting stronger durability along with a slower unfolding experience. There’s more resistance now, and the unfolding feels more confident. You can definitely open it with one hand through some practice, and in time, even be able to whip it out like the good ol’ days (which we’re sure Samsung factored in and therefore chose better materials to reinforce the hinge with).

With such a level of granular level of unfolding angles to play with, it’s only natural to assume that it’s all for the phone’s real deal, which is Flex Mode.
