Nothing Technology in Malaysia has announced their latest flagship, the Nothing Phone (2), to be available in Malaysia.
As the company’s 2nd smartphone ever made, the Nothing Phone (2) tries to push their positioning upwards, from mid-range to flagship, and how they aim to achieve that is to build upon their successful Nothing Phone (1) by upgrading nearly every aspect of the hardware, while retaining its design language (mostly).
What remains is the screen’s flatness with thin bezels, as well as the transparent Corning Gorilla glass back which protrudes out a little more instead of being completely flat. This makes the back just a little rounder but more ergonomic since you’ll feel no edges.
The glyph lights get an improvement too, on top of a slight change in pattern. There are now three interruptions – on the C around the camera and on the G around the wireless charging coil.
To top it all off, Nothing has also improved water protection on the Phone (2), offering IP 54 levels of protection compared to the Phone (1)’s IP 53.
Improved Cameras
A major improvement is the choice of camera sensors, and let’s start with the primary. It uses the flagship-tier Sony IMX890 complete with OIS, whereas the ultrawide is Samsung’s 50MP JN1 sensor complete with macro capabilities.

The Nothing Phone (2) runs on the Nothing OS 2.0, introducing new colors, wallpapers and tones. A cool addition is the glyph composer, a feature that allows you to create custom sounds that’s mapped to the glyph lights. This allows users to create their own unique tones and soundscapes for even more personalisation. Nothing also promises 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security patches, which will come bi-monthly.
What We Think
It seems that Nothing really wants to tap into the flagship space, offering high specs that comes with a price bump that might sway consumers. As with how the Nothing Phone (1) took Malaysia by storm, this phone might appeal to those who wanted to get a Nothing Phone but held out because they couldn’t accept the choice of chipset and preferred something a little high end.
