EarFun has always had a solid Malaysian presence, being a wireless audio brand that always seems to punch above its weight. I’ve reviewed plenty of earphones in my career, with some from EarFun as well over the years, especially from the Air Pro line, which I’ve always vouched for as earphones that are packed with good drivers, tech and seemingly safe design language.
EarFun Air Pro 4+ – If It Ain’t Broken, Don’t Fix It!

It’s actually quite rare to hear that earphone models get an improved version rather than a succession model, which is exactly what the EarFun Air Pro 4+ is all about. Instead of typically jumping to becoming the EarFun Air Pro 5, the company had decided to pick up the Air Pro 4 again and give it an update. It’s actually quite the sign to show that EarFun does have love for their products and won’t necessarily force themselves to innovate and spit out a half-baked product. Instead, they take their time, and even spend that time to improve on existing products, which is always a good thing to see.
What Is The EarFun Air Pro 4+?
For the uninitiated, the EarFun Air Pro 4+ are wireless earbuds featuring adaptive noise cancellation up to 50dB, dual drivers, and a long-lasting battery that can provide up to 54 hours of total playtime with the case. They also support high-resolution audio codecs like LDAC and aptX Lossless, Bluetooth 6.0 with multipoint connectivity, low latency mode for gaming, and are IP55 water and dust resistant.
The EarFun Audio app allows for customization of sound, controls, and noise cancellation.

Design

The case now features a front opening lid and stands vertical, which is in line with the competition, completely rounded on all sides, including the bottom, so it won’t be standing upwards at all. The finish is completely matte and in a gunmetal grey color, with the only flairs being the EarFun logo with a mirrored finish etched into front of the lid. Right below is the multi-colored LED that typically indicates battery life and pairing, seated on top of a rounded dent to show which side up you’re on.
The case is also rated IP55 for water and dust proofing, and will provide 4 full charges to the earphones. You can charge it using the USB-C port at the bottom, next to the pairing button. It also supports wireless charging, a feature rarely seen on TWS earphones below RM 500.

As you’ll open the case you’ll see the buds, which are your typical stem-type buds with a more pronounced matte-silver color and the same mirrored logo on each side. Silver rings are present at the top, which are your controls.
The buds themselves weigh 5.2 grams, and offer a tight seal out of the box (lucky for my ear size), and I notice that they’re a tad touch smaller compared to the Air Pro 4’s. In my experience they’re comfortable and don’t look too imposing, which is nice. While I wouldn’t say they’re minimalist in design, it does have a simplicity that I can appreciate.
How To Pair
Open the charging case to automatically enter pairing mode. Your device (if it’s android) should display a pairing request.
Tap “Connect” or “Pair” to complete the connection. If you have an Android device, the Google Fast Pair feature will guide you through the process.
For advanced features like noise cancellation and EQ settings, download the EarFun Audio app from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.
Gestures
The EarFun Air Pro 4+ are primarily controlled using touch controls on the earbuds themselves, as well as through the EarFun Audio App for customization and advanced features.

The Tech

EarFun is a brand that loves to pack lots of tech in their earphones, so there’s plenty opportunity to tune your audio as well as to enjoy codecs seen on high-end earphones. For starters, the Air Pro 4+ supports Bluetooth 6.0, which is why you’ll get one of the most diverse set of codecs available in this price range. Because of the support for higher bandwidth, you’ll get access to AptX Lossless, LDAC, AAC and LC3, on top of the usual SBC and AAC codecs you see everywhere else. As usual, there is support for Google Fast Pair, as well as Multipoint for connecting to 2 devices simultaneously, as well as Auracast for broadcasts and TV connectivity. These features work flawlessly and without difficulty.
As for the rest of the hardware, the Air Pro 4+ uses the same tried and true QCC3091 SoC by Qualcomm, as seen on last year’s model, so the real upgrade is the newer Bluetooth 6.0 which does contribute to audio quality wirelessly. This SoC is also known for its fairly performative ANC, utilizing QuietSmart™ 3.0 Adaptive Hybrid ANC that can block up to 50dB of noise, which includes AI Ear Adaptive and AI Environment Adaptive modes.
It’s also worth noting that the Air Pro 4+ also sports in-ear detection, which is snappy and responsive. Finally, just worth noting and not a complaint, os that that EarFun Air Pro 4+
The Sound
The Air Pro 4+ does phenomally, offering a much wider soundstage and versatile tuning that’s warm and balanced out of the box. Bass is also better defined and doesn’t overstep into other areas, so you’ll be able to hear everything from vocals to instruments without either side getting drowned out from other another. This doesn’t mean it doesn’t thump the bass, in fact, it’s a pretty strong sub-bass, it’s just that its wonderfully controlled so nothing stood out loud enough to distract you, which is awesome. You will definitely enjoy the thump when you have ANC ON!

The decision to feature dual-drivers was a sound one (get it?), especially with the deployed combination of a 10mm dynamic driver and an “ultra-light FeatherBA” (Balanced-Armature) driver. Of course, dual-driver implementations are not new, but oftentimes just offered as a gimmick or a buzz word to make it sound premium. But here, it’s really working. Besides, the cost to consumer is already minimal, since the Balanced Armature driver is developed in-house, which is always cost effective.
In short, the Air Pro 4+ outdid the Air Pro 4 in terms of audio quality by such a far mile, that I thought that it was the Air Pro 5 already. When you pay this little for earphones, it’s normal to have lowered expectations, which help it smash through the stratosphere when you do try it out.
Battery Life and ANC
After the my initial day of listening and then only deciding to head into the EarFun App for some tinker and trying out the available EQ profiles (THERE ARE OVER 20 OF THEM), the next big step is to try out this ‘overly impressive ANC that could potentially block out up to 50 dB’.
There are many ways to look at it. One side of me feels like ANC is not its strong suit considering the many other competitors I have tried throughout the year, and the other side thinking that it’s quite okay because of the price. In this respect, I’d say that it’s good for sub-300 earbuds, but it’s not going to beat the likes of AirPods of Galaxy Buds 3 Pro (which cost at least twice as much).
It can handle typical scenarios like subway train movements, PA’s and even being on flight, but anything that’s typically overstimulating it won’t be at its best, such as a crowded bustling street or traffic. However ANC seems to do quite nicely in affecting music, it does compliment the bass, so if your priority is indeed for music, then this won’t be a pressing matter for you. Transparency mode fares much better as its goal is to let external sounds be heard even when you’re listening to music. From an objective standpoint, it delivers, but don’t expect it to sound very natural, it’s literally sounding like mics picking up sounds, which may or may not be an issue to some people.
Battery life is a strong point too, but it depends on the Codec you’re on.
Battery Tested
| Codec + Sound Mode | Battery Life |
| AptX / AAC + ANC ON | 9 Hrs 38 Minutes |
| AptX / AAC + ANC OFF | 12 Hrs 3 Minutes |
| LDAC + ANC ON | 5 Hrs 32 Minutes |
| LDAC + ANC OFF | 6 Hrs 12 Minutes |
These are impressive numbers for TWS, which last pretty long as well as not needing to recharge them very often. Combined with the case, it is a staggering 54 hours, along with relatively respectable fast charging speeds of 3 hours of playtime from just a 10-minute top up.
Conclusion

The EarFun Air Pro 4+ is indeed impressive and once again punches above its weight, following the company’s direction of making audio products packed with tech and features that showcases their commitment to creating value for money earphones. While it’s not leading in ANC, it makes up for it tenfold through audio quality, codec support, battery life and companion app intuitivity.
With my utmost confidence I definitely recommend the Earfun Air Pro 4+ to anyone who truly wants to focus on listening ot music across all kind of devices with the best quality and battery possible under RM 400.
